  3. I know that is the day when my Father give a bunch of flowers to my mum.
When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine therefore performed marriages for young lovers in secret as he was a priest. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. He was then buried on February 14.
Around the world, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones on Valentines!

  4. Every February, across the country, everyone celebrated Valentine's Day which is on February 14.Flowers,gifts,candy and chocolates are exchanged beetween loved ones.
But we know February has long been month of romance.Saint Valentine's Day,as we know contain vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition.Catholic Church at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend was told that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
While others may say Valentine was tortured and beaten for he helped Christians escaped in harsh roman prisons.
Others stories suggest that Valentine fell in love with the jailor's daughter. Before he dies it is believed that he wrote her a letter and he signed it from your Valentine.

  6. I don't celebrate Valentine's Day but I think it's a very nice occasion. Valentine's Day doesn't really mean anything to me. I know that people give somebody they love greeting cards, chocolates or a bunch of flowers. Greeting cards usually have the words "From your valentine" because on the evening before Valentine's execution, he wrote the first "valentine" himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved. The note he sent read "From your valentine". I guess that most people send red roses to their loved ones as it is the colour of a heart. Probably the reason why people give chocolates is because it is really sweet and nice which fits the occasion perfectly. This years' Chinese New Year falls on the same day as Valentine's Day. I wonder if anybody will send out a greeting card.

  8. If you're like me, than never liked how Valentine's Day is portrayed. I absolutely loathe it. Early Christians saw Valentine's Day as a way to honor St.The Catholic Church recognizes three saints by that name, all who were martyred on February 14。When Claudius II met Valentine, he was said to have been impressed by the dignity and conviction of the latter. However, Valentine refused to agree with the emperor regarding the ban on marriage. The emperor tried to the Roman gods but was unsuccesful in his efforts. Valentine refused to recognize Roman Gods and even attempted to convert the emperor, knowing the consequences fully. This angered Claudius II who gave the order of execution of Valentine. He was then buried on February 14.

  12. I think it means a day to show your loved ones how much you care and how much you love them and not just with gifts and cards but in words and expressions. We celebrate Valentine's Day, because until 1969, it was one of the many Saint's Days observed by the Catholic Church. It was dedicated to the patron saint of romantic causes, St. Valentine.

Although it was removed from the Church's calendar in 1969, the religious meaning coupled with Valentine's Day's roots in Roman paganism have allowed it to continue as a holiday for everyone.

Early Christians saw Valentine's Day as a way to honor St. Valentine, of whom there were actually three. The Catholic Church recognizes three saints by that name, all who were martyred on February 14.

the background of Valentine's day is when guys give a bunch of red roses to women and the exchange of chocolates and candies

  13. According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl — who may have been his jailor's daughter — who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

  14. Although valentine's day seem yucky and gross, I still know some information. It was a day which Saint Valentine was burried. The reason why people sign love letters as Your valetine is because before saint valentine died, he sent a letter to the jalier's daughter, whom he loved, and signed it with, your valentine.
